Dentist
Dr Maia Tapsell is a dentist at Beyond Dental with a focus on minimally invasive, patient-centred care. She takes particular care to create a comfortable and supportive environment for anxious patients, taking the time to understand individual concerns and helping patients feel informed and at ease throughout their treatment.
After completing her Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Otago in 2020, Maia gained four years of clinical experience in Rotorua before joining Beyond Dental. She has continued to expand her skills through further education in cosmetic, restorative and implant dentistry, including the New Zealand Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Graduate Programme and implant training through the ACE Institute. Her broader experience also includes volunteering with Fiji Medical Camps, where she provided dental care to communities with limited access to treatment.
Maia continues to undertake professional development across her areas of clinical interest, with additional training in restorative, cosmetic and implant dentistry.
“I take pride in delivering minimally invasive, patient-centred care and aim to create a comfortable environment for anxious patients.” – Dr Maia Tapsell
Maia has particular interests in cosmetic dentistry, minimally invasive dentistry and dental implants. She enjoys combining these areas with a patient-centred approach, with a focus on education, prevention and helping patients understand the options available for their care.
Her patient-centred approach is especially important when caring for people who feel nervous or anxious about dental treatment. Maia aims to create an environment where patients feel comfortable asking questions, understand their options and can make informed decisions about their dental care.
Outside of work, Maia is currently focused on her studies in Te Tohu Paetahi and enjoys reading and gardening. After learning Korean while living in Seoul, she is now also strengthening her te reo Māori.
