Prevention is better than cureGeneral Dentistry

I want to know more about General Dentistry, please!

General dentistry deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of your common dental problems. Maintaining good oral health is essential for general health and wellbeing. Dental problems can lead to pain, infection, broken teeth or even tooth loss, all of which can lower your quality of life. Poor oral health is linked to heart disease, diabetes and stroke.

Regular visits to the dentist can help prevent these concerns and guarantee any issues are identified and treated as early as possible, with the best long term oral health results.

Our philosophy is that prevention is better than cure.

General dentistry includes: a comprehensive new patient consultation, regular checkups and cleanings, to promote good oral health.

We also understand problems can arise and need to be fixed.

General dentistry also includes: white fillings, ceramic crowns, root canal treatments, tooth extractions and partial dentures, to fix teeth or relieve pain and keep you smiling for life.

General Dentistry FAQs

If you don’t want to risk waiting for a big problem or are ready to stop putting off a problem you have already, we have a team of experienced dentists and dental hygienists ready to help you.

Most new general dentistry patients first visit us at Beyond Dental for a New Patient Comprehensive Consultation. We can fully assess, provide options and plan your needs with you, in a calm comfortable environment. You also have the option of attending an Urgent Care/Problem Consult to assess a single problem you may have. We do our best to treat on the same day when indicated, however you may require further appointments to address any treatments required.

If you are still unsure about the best way to care for your general dental care, you can call us 07 987 2825

Many people feel the same way, and your dentist will be trained and experienced in making you feel at ease.

There is always the option of dental sedation for your procedures, so you can forget you were ever here.

No, these treatments are all provided with local anaesthetic where indicated to numb the area before your procedure to ensure your comfort. After the procedure any sensitivity or discomfort you feel can be managed by Panadol if required and subsides within days.

  3. Do you use an antiseptic mouthwash to kill bacteria and freshen your breath?
  4. Do you use interdental brushes or a water flosser 2 to 3 times per day if you have gum disease, braces and/or implants?
  5. Do you eat a healthy diet, low in sugary and acidic foods/drinks?
  6. Do you avoid smoking or tobacco products?
  7. Do you need specialised products such as sensitive toothpaste, tooth mousse, fluoride tablets, fluoride mouthrinse or other medications? If you are unsure, please come in and ask us for a personalised recommendation.

Your dental hygienist has trained for 3 years to specialise in promoting excellent oral health and preventing tooth and gum problems. Their specific role in your dental care is essential, from teeth cleanings, periodontal (gum) therapy, teeth whitening, fluoride applications, to diagnosing problems and perhaps the most important job, providing you with personalised oral hygiene instruction for homecare prevention and a healthy smile.

Most patients regularly visit the dentist for a routine checkup and examination every 12 months.

Most patients see the dental hygienist every 6 months to 9 months for their clean and polish.

Your individual needs may vary, requiring more or less frequent care. We can advise how often you should schedule your maintenance visits.
